The Alps in Austria are set to star in Spectre, the latest James Bond movie, with hold-on-to-your-hats action sequences filmed against the stunning snowy backdrop. The Tyrol is also topping the bill in The Wayfarers new – and first – Winter Walk, but no snowmobiles for us – it’s slow travel, with thrills, but no spills! In fact we offer perhaps the most peaceful way to enjoy the beauty and serenity of winter in the mountains – on snowshoes! Our daily hikes from our lovely family-run hotel in impossibly pretty St Jakob in Haus, offer great outdoor fun, low-impact exercise and a wonderful way to enjoy ourselves. michael ernst And there’s an option to go cross-country skiing too. Expert instruction is available and then, the snowfields await! Imagine a hot chocolate (perhaps fortified with a little something) when we stop for a break (and it’s Austria, so there’s bound to be delicious cake too).Then what about meeting up with the group for a warming lunch at a traditional Gasthof? The hills are, of course, alive with the sound of music – can it really be 50 years since Julie Andrews and that movie hit the big screen? salzburg-113993_1280 When it comes to music, we have a real treat in store – an evening in Salzburg, for dinner and a concert at the renowned Mozarteum. We have a tour of Kitzbühel, too, a beautiful small medieval town transformed by snow into a winter sports paradise. Come with us for some winter fun and glorious hiking.
