By Roy Robinson This, my first visit to the U.K., was everything I could have hoped for, and more.  The Lake District in the west was wild, mountainous and scenic, contrasting with the hills, dales and moors of Yorkshire on the east side.  Our lodging ranged from charming country inns to spacious manor houses, and the food was fresh, tasty and prepared with obvious pride in its locally-grown origins.  But we would expect no less, right?  (Sounds like a travelogue.)  We met many friendly and interesting people, and enjoyed the beer.  This hike is a wonderful introduction to the northern English country.
