Yes, you can hike 'far from the madding crowd' in England’s gloriously rural county of Dorset. Following in the footsteps of writer Thomas Hardy, who was born and lived most of his life in the county, our Walk takes us from high, rolling countryside to spectacular beaches.

Part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, millions of years of the earth’s history reveal themselves in the golden cliffs here. You won’t find a single mile of freeway in Dorset and high-hedged lanes lead us to tiny villages lined with traditional thatched cottages – and of course local inns and cider 'sheds' where we sample the golden drink made as it has been for centuries. From walking amid the world’s only colony of hundreds of nesting mute swans, originally established by medieval monks, to strolling in the garden of Mapperton, a beautiful country manor house (which starred in the 2015 movie Far From the Madding Crowd) this Walk is a chance to truly get away from it all.
