Love mountains, but always hike in the spring, summer or fall? Now's the chance to see the slopes and peaks of Austria as a winter wonderland - at walking pace. The Wayfarers' first winter Walk is a joy. Imagine hiking or snowshoeing in the Austrian Tyrol on easy terrain, surrounded by a sparkling snow scene. Putting on the snowshoes Or put on the cross-country skis, and, after expert tuition if that's required, head off on the trail in a rather different way. Ride a toboggan in the snowfields at dusk and experience the soaring music at a concert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Michael and Betsy West hosted the "shakedown" winter Walk in the Pillersee Valley and here's what Michael has to say: "For many years now our Wayfarers have asked us for more winter options, so we explored the idea of bringing a new type of week into our Wayfarers portfolio. And we are so glad we did. "The week was enormous fun and we all loved it. "Our Wayfarers loved staying in one hotel for the whole trip - the lovely family-run Hotel Unterlechner in the little jewel of a village of St Jakob in Haus - eating excellent food and with such a warm welcome. There was easy walking on snow, or snowshoeing, or the option of cross-country skiing.

"There was the wonderful night of dinner and a concert in Salzburg.
"We discovered more about Tyrolean culture and crafts - and yodelling - and there was the chance to relax after an invigorating day out with a spa treatment at our hotel.
"And of course there were plenty of stops for hot chocolate and cakes! It really was a wonderful winter holiday and I can't recommend it too highly."
