Portugal - The Algarve

We are heading to Portugal's Algarve coast in the far west of the country. For those who love the sea, this stunning coastline, and its peaceful hinterland of the white villages of 'old' Portugal is a must-hike. The wind brushes coastal paths and miles of glorious beaches, which curve into perfect, peaceful swimming coves. This is a landscape of nationally protected nature reserves, pristine beaches, wild coastlines and jagged cliffs. Highlights include:

  • Walking the coastal paths of Cape St Vincent - the south-westernmost point of Europe
  • Local cuisine featuring fresh seafood
  • A day-long expedition to Foia, the highest point in the Algarve range
  • Exploring colorful Carrapateira and the fishing village of Olhao
  • Stunning coastal walking with views of the wild Atlantic Ocean

Via del Sale

Italy - Via del Sale

Our wonderful new Walk in Italy traces the ancient 'salt road' – the Via del Sale. This Walk explores the ancient route once used to bring salt from the Ligurian sea inland to Northern Italy in the days when salt was more precious than gold. We hike the salt road in reverse, from Piedmont to the sea and on the way we encounter a landscape of medieval castles, unspoiled historic villages and small Romanesque churches. Of course we take the time to sample the special flavors of the outstanding regional cuisine: truffles, artisan cheeses, sweet hazelnut cake and agnolotti ravioli – it’s no wonder this region was the birthplace of the 'slow food' movement. Highlights include:

  • UNESCO World Heritage Site wine region
  • Wine tastings in Barolo and Barbaresco
  • Hike in tranquil mountains along shepherds'trails
  • Sample the outstanding regional cuisine
  • Stroll by the sea on the Riviera of Flowers
