January 8th 2015

What will challenge you in 2015? Well, how about your vacation? Taking time out from the daily routine and ‘chilling out’ doesn’t always mean relaxing on a beach, cocktail in hand. A Wayfarers Walk is all about refreshing the body and the soul – and there may even be be the odd cocktail or two in the mix! It is now recognised that getting out into the fresh air and striding it out can be as valuable for our wellbeing as taking medicine. Being active is a lifelong health habit. It's great for preventing weight gain, lifting the mood, and reducing the risk of a raft of serious diseases, such as heart disease. Our Walks are all carefully graded, according to miles walked or testing terrain. So are you up for joining one of our Level Five Walks this year? If you are looking for a bit of adventure, a more strenuous, goal oriented route, often in the footsteps of traditional paths – come with us! Walking on the Camino de Santiago sums up what a Level 5 is all about. Hiking in Spain for between five and six hours each day, covering from nine to 15 miles, we highlight one of the world’s greatest journeys. From Burgos, the capital of Castile, we follow the scallop shell emblems of St James to our goal – Santiago de Compostela. Originally a religious pilgrimage, now we meet people of all nationalities from all walks of life on the Camino. 'Life affirming’ and ‘incredibly moving’ are some of the reflections from those who have made the trip. We stay in paradors and hotels of character along our route – and as ever, our Walk Manager brings our baggage and offers a ride to anyone not wishing to walk a particular leg, while our experienced Walk Leader’s knowledge adds another dimension to our days. On our Walk in the wilds of Italy’s Dolomite mountains we tackle some steeper paths and take bracing hikes across plateaux to seek out our reward of incredible views in this unique Unesco-listed area. The stunning scenery in England’s National Parks is the prize for opting for Level 5 on our Coast to Coast Adventure in the north or tackling Dartmoor to Exmoor in the south-west. Both explore seashores and high moorlands, with plenty of hiking to get the blood pumping and truly clear the head! And last but not least, our Walk in Colorado is a strenuous and hugely rewarding progress through the wilderness mountains in the south of the state. Hiking at altitude on mountain trails, there’s also the chance to soak off the day in hot spring pools! With everything taken care of – and a guarantee of delicious meals and a comfy bed at night – with our special ingredient, the fun of being in company with fellow Wayfarers, there’s no better way to take up a New Year challenge.
