PRESS RELEASE   27 October 2015 THE WAYFARERS WALKING VACATIONS’ NEW 2016 BROCHURE FEATURES THOMAS HARDY’S DORSET THE WAYFARERS Walking Vacations has released its 2016 brochure, offering five brand-new itineraries among the 46 all-inclusive tours across 17 countries. One of the new additions entitled: Thomas Hardy’s Dorset 'Far from the Madding Crowd', in the England’s southwest, has echoes of The Wayfarers’ small-scale origins as a walking vacation company more than 30 years ago, but which today features the hotel named as the UK’s best,** part of which was designed by writer (and architect) Thomas Hardy. The 5-star Summer Lodge Country House Hotel is in the village of Evershot, renamed Evershead by Hardy, and the tour’s other accommodation is the 700-year-old former priests’ house, the boutique BridgeHouse Hotel in Beaminster (Emminster). The vacation takes in Hardy’s birthplace, his townhouse and a private tour of stately Mapperton House, home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, where much of the 2015 version of Far From the Madding Crowd was filmed. Guests hike a stunning stretch of the spectacular Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and visit Lyme Regis, setting of The French Lieutenant’s Woman novel and movie - and get to taste the ale at the UK’s only thatched brewery. The Wayfarers’ founder Michael West says: 'To bring our guests to Dorset on this very special Walk is a huge pleasure for me and not only because this is the county where I live. 'Many areas and villages in Dorset are little changed since Hardy’s time; the countryside and Jurassic coastline are absolutely breathtaking and the local food and drink are second to none. 'In some ways, we are going back to our roots, as when I started The Wayfarers with friends Christopher Hague and Peter Clifford in1984, we took people who loved hiking on simple, but fun vacations here in the south and west of England. 'Now we take our guests all over the world, staying in some of the best and loveliest hotels, but our values remain the same: the benefits of slow travel; immersing ourselves in local culture and meeting local people; traveling along paths less-traveled, with a small group of like-minded companions. Those values are reflected in every one of the tours in our new brochure.' Dorset Walk highlights
