May 26th 2015

setting off on the snow 16 April 2015. The 2016 program will feature a week in the Austrian Tyrol with snowshoe hikes and optional cross-country skiing, with expert tuition available. The Walk is based at the Hotel Unterlechner in the picturesque village of St Jakob in Haus, combing hiking and/or cross-country skiing in the Pillersee Valley. The Wayfarers founder Michael West said that clients had long been asking for a Walk in the winter months. He added: 'We put this itinerary together to give our Wayfarers the chance to experience the stunning mountain scenery under snow, with the added spice of skiing across country for those with a good level of fitness, or hiking with or without snowshoes. 'The Wayfarers’ take on slow travel fits perfectly with the increasing market for ‘wellness’ travel* which combines a vacation with light physical activity. 'This Walk is enormous fun; it gives us the opportunity to show our Wayfarers the beauties of Austria in the winter season, provides our usual all-inclusive package and the chance to get to know the area on foot – or ski.' Highlights:
  • Choice of cross-country skiing or hiking the trails in the winter wonderland of the Austrian Tyrol
  • Visit the storybook city of Salzburg, have dinner and attend a concert at the world-famous Mozarteum
  • A toboggan ride as night falls over the snowfields
  • Relax with a luxury spa treatment at the hotel
  • Discover Tyrolean tradition, culture and crafts.
Price: $4195, no single supplement.  Trip dates: March 6-12, 2016. *A research report conducted by SRI International for the Global Spa & Wellness Summit (GSWS) found that wellness tourism represents a US$439 billion market, or 14 percent of world tourism expenditures and is increasing market share 50 percent faster than regular tourism.
