If winter is cold and dark, it’s all too easy to slip in to hibernation mode. But wrap up warm and join us outdoors in the Austrian Tyrol to discover the joys of an invigorating walk in winter in a snowy wonderland. Even if it’s chilly, wrapping up in a few extra layers, means it’s easy to keep warm. And when the sun shines on the sparkling snowfields, there’s nowhere better to see off any winter blues. Take your choice of hiking the trails or slipping on cross-country skis. Full training is provided for the skiers and we all meet up again along the trail for a hearty lunch, like as not in a traditional Gasthof. winter snowshoeing And there’s no need to feel guilty about that hot chocolate with whipped cream – and a delicious cake. Walking in the cold burns more calories because the body has to work extra hard to stay warm. Once you get moving your body will release feel-good hormones called endorphins, the blood starts pumping and we get that rosy-cheeked glow! We stay all week in the intimate, friendly and family-run Hotel Unterlechner in impossibly pretty St Jakob in Haus. With a luxury spa on hand, take your choice from a sauna or steam bath, a dip in the pool or a relaxing massage. An evening out in Salzburg awaits too. A city that says: 'Storybook Austria', we have dinner in a wonderful restaurant and then enjoy a concert in the birthplace of Mozart. Add to that a toboggan ride as night falls and a chance to experience Tyrolean tradition, culture and even yodeling and you’ll be hooked on a winter hike!
