Section 1: Introduction

Sunday Overnight: Kentisbury Grange

Meet at Barnstaple railway station, then transfer to our hotel in Kentisbury, on the border of Exmoor National Park. Introductory Talk and Welcome Dinner in our hotel.

Monday Overnight: Kentisbury Grange

Head out on the South West Coast Path from Trentishoe to Heddons Mouth, with breathtaking views of Exmoor and the Welsh Coast. The abundance of wildflowers in Spring and the rainbow of colors in Fall, set against the backdrop of Englands highest cliffs, make this walk unforgettable.

Tuesday Overnight: The Bath Hotel

Transfer to the Valley of Rocks, known as Englands Little Switzerland, then take the cliff path towards Lynton, perhaps spotting one of the areas feral mountain goats on the way. From Lynton, we board the water-powered Cliff Railway, a marvel of Victorian engineering, down to seaside Lynmouth. Well walk to the old fishing lodge at Watersmeet for lunch, and explore the wooded, rocky cleaves above Watersmeet before arriving at our Victorian hotel facing the sea in Lynmouth.

Wednesday Overnight: The Bath Hotel

Starting from Malmsmead, a riverside hamlet hidden deep in a valley, well follow the Oare Water upstream, on a winding and occasionally steep route of footpaths and quiet lanes, through pastures and woodlands. Dont be surprised to see some of Exmoors famous wild ponies. After lunch at a remote pub, well continue walking to Culbones historic St Buenos church, dating to the 13th century. Not only is it Englands smallest parish church, (it seats about 30), it is also only accessible on foot. Well finish the day at Porlock Weir (harbor) before returning to Lynmouth.

Thursday Overnight: Luttrell Arms Hotel

Walk from Webbers Post, enjoying glorious views across the high moors en route to the village of Porlock. Along the way, explore wooded valleys on National Trust land with ancient, twisting oaks twined with ferns. After lunch in Porlock, look in at Doverhay Manor, a perfect example of a medieval Exmoor house, now a local museum. Then its off to Dunster for a tour of the village and castle, just a stones throw from our 13th century hotel.

Friday Overnight: Luttrell Arms Hotel

Walk the Great Track at the top of the Quantocks, with sweeping views over open moorland to the Bristol Channel. Were heading to lovely Bicknoller for a pub lunch. Afterwards, well take footpaths and tiny lanes south to picturesque Stogumber where we enjoy a cream tea before returning to Dunster on a restored steam train. Farewell Dinner in the hotel.
