History buffs will love this Walk, which includes a day-long tour of the D-Day Landings site and a visit to the US cemetery. We visit the scene of the largest airborne night assault in history, the center of the US 82nd Pointe du Hoc where the battery has been left as it was on D-Day.

A Walk highlight is our overnight stay in Mont St Michel and a tour of the famous abbey. Our stay here gives us the luxury of enjoying the famous islet in the peace of the evening after the crowds have gone. Back on the mainland, a stroll though Normandy's famous "bocage", a picture postcard landscape of woods, meadows and orchards, enables us to sample the renowned local apple brandy and ice-cream.

Sunday Overnight: Hotel Le d'Avaugour

We rendezvous in Rennes, the capital of Brittany, and drive to Dinan, a lovely medieval town surrounded by fortified walls. After a welcome aperitif and talk in the hotel, we stroll out to one of the best restaurants in town for dinner.

Monday Overnight: Hotel Le d'Avaugour

We start the day with a guided walking tour of Brittany's most beautiful old town, the former seat of the Dukes of Brittany, surrounded by ramparts almost 250 ft above the River Rance. We walk beside the river to the village of Lehon, protected by its feudal castle dominating the former abbey. After lunch in a local inn, we continue along the river ascending through meadows to end the day with a great view of the city and its river-port from a magnificent viaduct. We dine this evening in a typical "creperie", much favoured by the townspeople.

Tuesday Overnight: Hotel Le Nouveau Monde

We take a short walk from our hotel to board our boat for a leisurely cruise along the Rance river followed by a walk to our lunch venue. We start our afternoon with a short transfer to see a unique tidal power-station and then continue on foot to the famous resort of Dinard, pausing to enjoy its magnificent setting opposite the corsair city of St-Malo, which we reach by ferry. We stroll along the ancient city ramparts to our beautiful new hotel, before having dinner in the restaurant overlooking the sea.

Wednesday Overnight: Le Relais Saint Michel

We walk along the coastline, passing the amazing sculptured rocks of Rotheneuf, comprising 300 local characters carved into the granite by a 19th-century priest, the Abbe Foure. We continue along the picturesque Cote d'Emeraude (Emerald Coast) to lunch followed by a drive into Normandy. With the fabulous profile of Mont St Michel beckoning us, we follow an old pilgrims' trail to the sandy bay from where we walk up to the abbey in its island setting. In the evening, we walk across the causeway to Mont St Michel to dine on the famous "omelette de la Mere Poulard"; a unique experience!

Thursday Overnight: Chateau La Cheneviere

Driving through the typical Normandy countryside, we arrive at Bayeux, a medieval city which escaped from the worst of the WWII bombing. We visit the famous tapestry made in the 11th century celebrating the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy. After lunch, we walk through the "bocage", a Norman word to describe the unique, picture postcard landscape of woodland, pasture and meadows formed by dense hedges (a nightmare for the paratroops in the weeks after D-Day), interspersed with charming hamlets. We stop to taste the renowned local calvados (made from the fruit of the ubiquitous apple orchards), local cider and homemade ice cream and visit an elegant 18th-century manor. We settle in our stunning hotel in Port-en-Bessin, before a presentation on the D-Day Landings, the Battle for Normandy and the beaches we will explore tomorrow.

Friday Overnight: Chateau La Cheneviere

After breakfast, we depart for a full day's fascinating and thought-provoking tour of the famous and infamous Normandy beaches. We will visit St Mere Eglise, scene of the largest airborne night assault in history (800 planes) and center of US 82nd Airborne operations; the German cemetery at La Cambe; the Pointe du Hoc where the battery has been left, as a memorial, as it was on D-Day. After lunch, we pass by Omaha Beach and the US Cemetery, with time to reflect...

"Look how many there are.
Look how young they are.
They died for your freedom.
Hold back your tears and be silent"

We return to our hotel for our Farewell Dinner.
