The ancient trade routes of the Roman Empire are our territory for this unique Walk through the World Heritage Site of the Cinque Terre or Five Lands. We trek cliff-top footpaths overlooking the Mediterranean and picturesque harbor towns of the Italian Riviera. Passing through olive groves, pungent pine forests and quiet mountain pastures, we discover the towering cliffs of the Portofino National Park, a 1,200-year-old monastery and a giant vineyard amphitheatre at Volastra. Last but not least, we'll enjoy a wonderful day tasting the high-life in Portofino, the perfect end to this wonderful Walk.

Meet in La Spezia and transfer to our hotel in stunning Portovenere. Welcome Dinner tonight at the hotel.

Monday Overnight: Grand Hotel Portovenere

Explore picturesque Portovenere, famous for its connection to Byron and Shelley, then hike in the protected Mediterranean landscape, surrounded by flowers and broom shrub, on the island La Palmaria.

Tuesday Overnight: Grand Hotel dei Castelli

Walk along mule tracks and footpaths, and on stairs in the spectacular Cinque Terre National Park. We'll travel through woodlands, terraced vineyards, hilltop villages and tiny fishing ports. After an invigorating morning and splendid lunch we'll tranfer to our elegant home for the night in Sestri Levante.

Wednesday Overnight: Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi

Today's route follows an ancient mountain trail, walking through forests and pastures, with outstanding views of the sea in one direction and mountain woodlands in the other. We lunch on an elegant terrace overlooking the sparkling Ligurian Sea and descend to Rapallo by cable car, en route to our seaside hotel in the fishing village of Camogli.

Thursday Overnight: Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi

Today's route takes us through oak and chestnut forests to the jewel of the Italian Riviera, Portofino. In a small piazza very close to the harbor, enjoy lunch in a favorite little restaurant serving spaghetti with pesto, prepared in the traditional Genovese way. You will never forget it. After lunch, we explore the old harbor, wander around the tiny streets with their yachting boutiques and art galleries, and walk to the lighthouse before boarding a ferry for the voyage back across the bay to our hotel.

Friday Overnight: Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi

Walk to Punta Chiappa, then board a boat that will take us past the towering cliffs of Portofino National Park to the 1,200-year-old monastery of San Fruttuoso, a jewel accessible only by sea or on foot. After lunch, we can continue our hike uphill along the cliffs, or return to Camogli by boat. Farewell Dinner tonight.


After breakfast, The Wayfarers will transport you to Genova Piazza Principe rail station.

Its story began in 1565 when a family of aristocratic Dogi, which governed a great part of Italy, decided to build a villa as their retreat. Many of the frequent visitors were Cardinals and Priests, which inspired the Dogi to build a beautiful little chapel at the villa which still exists. Many years later the property was bought by the noble family of Emilio De Ferrari who transformed the estate into a park and hotel. Views, which are nothing short of spectacular, can now be enjoyed from the hotels private beach, terrace bar and restaurant. Other facilities include a health club, tennis courts and an outdoor seawater swimming pool with sun terrace.
