Magnificent mountains and serene fjords provide an invigorating setting for our Norway Walk. We hike the trails around the breathtaking Western Fjords. We taste the local apple cider and sample the famous Norwegian "brown cheese". We walk the Folgefonna glacier and explore the fascinating Hardanger Folk Museum, discovering more about the local way of life across the centuries. We visit a Staves Church and walk through high meadows filled with wildflowers and fresh forests of pine and beech and acres of fruit orchards. Small ferries are an enjoyable necessity in this coastal region and we use many to wend our way across this lovely country.

Saturday Overnight: Kviknes Hotel

Meet in Bergen and take the express boat out of the city along Norway's scenic Sognefjord.

Sunday Overnight: Kviknes Hotel

Hike above Balestrand on a trail with breathtaking views of the village and surrounding landscape. We walk till mid-afternoon, then descend to a cider house to sample the local specialty.

Monday Overnight: Kviknes Hotel

Transfer by minibus for today's walk along the Gaularfjell mountains. After a delicious home-cooked lunch at a mountain farm, we arrive at an amazing viewing platform with spectacular views of the tumbling river. Afterwards, we stop off at a small enamel gallery to see local art. Tonight, our hotelier, Mr Kviknes, tells us the story of his fascinating home.

Tuesday Overnight: Hotel Ullensvang

Cross the fjord by boat to see traditional dwellings of the area before walking to the 12th-century Hopperstad Stave Church. We visit the local dairy, famous in Norway for its cheese. After lunch, we continue to Lofthus on the Hardanger Fjord. After, we'll stroll through the orchards along the Fruit Trail.

Wednesday Overnight: Hotel Ullensvang

The path leads us up along the Husedalen Valley to reach the magnificent waterfalls, perfect for a picnic lunch. From here, we'll walk to Kinsarvik and board a ferry to Utne, to visit the open air Hardanger Folk museum. Get ready for an enchanting recital from the famous Hardanger fiddles.

Thursday Overnight: Hotel Ullensvang

Shuttle to Tyssedal, the birthplace of industrial Norway, to visit the Norwegian Museum of Hydropower before walking from the dam along the river. In the afternoon, we return to Lofthus with time to enjoy the hotel's extensive wellness, relaxation, and recreational facilities.

Friday Overnight: Hotel Ullensvang

Travel by boat to the pretty village of Herand, for our journey to the Folgefonna glacier plateau. At the glacier, we embark on a three-hour blue ice trail, the biggest challenge of the week, with incredible glacier views and panoramas. Don't forget your camera! Farewell Dinner at our hotel.


One-hour transfer to Voss, where we say goodbye at the rail station for trains to Oslo or Bergen.

This hotel has been run by five generations of the Utne family after Hans Utne built the inn in 1846. A cabin in Lofthus near the inn was the inspiration and birthplace of the musical creations by the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.
